Dr Charity Newton is a medical specialist in paediatrics in the private sector. Dr Newton obtained her medical degree (MBCHB) in 2007 with Sefako Makgatho University for Health Sciences which was formerly known as MEDUNSA. She has a fellowship in Paediatrics (FCPAED) (2016) from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA).
Dr Newton holds a Master of Medicine in Paediatrics obtained from Sefako Makgatho University for Health Sciences. She is currently enrolled with the University of Witwatersrand, pursuing a course in paediatric neurodevelopment. Dr Newton is a strong advocate for comprehensive and inclusive children’s health, which has awarded her the opportunity of working in many programs and projects that aim to improve child health. In 2018, Dr Newton chaired the first neonatal ICU clinical care guidelines in Eswatini. Subsequently In 2021, Dr Newton was instrumental and led the team on establishing the first Neonatal ICU in the public sector. During her stay within the public sector, she was involved in the teaching and supervision of junior doctors. She continues to offer support to the medical and dental council as a member of the technical team, serving both as an examiner for pre-registration of doctor’s exams and also offering technical support on issues related to paediatrics.
Dr Newton works with many non-governmental organisations working with children as a technical and clinical expert. She is also active in the community in many support programs for children.
She is robust in her approach to improving health services for children, constantly engaging other paediatric super specialists outside the country to implement strategies locally to assist in the health of children in Eswatini.
